Board of Study in Multidisciplinary Studies
The University of Kelaniya is proud to introduce the first-ever Board of Study in Multidisciplinary Studies (BoSMDS) in Sri Lanka, established to foster a groundbreaking approach to higher education and research. This pioneering Board, founded in September 2016, is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of knowledge through the seamless integration of diverse academic disciplines. The first meeting of the BoS was held on May 18th, 2017, marking the commencement of its innovative journey.
The Board of Study in Multidisciplinary Studies (BoSMDS) offers a range of postgraduate programs, including Doctoral (PhD) programs (SLQL-12), Postgraduate Diplomas (SLQL-08) and Master's degrees (SLQL-09) in Medical Statistics, Health Service Management, and Health Economics, a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program with two years of research and skill development (SLQL-11).
The primary aim of the Multidisciplinary Studies Board is to facilitate collaborative research that transcends traditional academic boundaries. By bringing together scholars from various fields, the main objective is to create a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment that encourages interdisciplinary dialogue and innovation. Our Board comprises esteemed members from a wide array of academic areas, representing the broader university community of Sri Lanka. This diverse representation ensures a holistic and inclusive approach to research and education.
At the heart of our multidisciplinary approach lies an extensive array of subject combination possibilities, reflecting the rich tapestry of academic inquiry. Prospective research degree candidates can explore a variety of subject combinations such as Tourism Management, Educational Psychology, Educational Management, Forensic Science, Ayurveda Physiology, Psychological Counseling, Teacher Education, Communication and Counseling Psychology, Development Studies, and many more. This broad spectrum of disciplines provides a unique opportunity for students to tailor their academic journey to their specific interests and career aspirations.
