Workshop on Research Design and Methodology - Master of Medical Statistics Degree Program
The Master of Medical Statistics Degree Program successfully conducted a workshop on Research Design and Methodology. The workshop, held on May 4th, 2025, at the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya with the guidance of Dr. W.A.V.D. Anura Karunarathne – Chairperson of Board of Study in Multidisciplinary Studies, Dr. U.P. Liyanage - Academic Coordinator, Mr. V.L. Weerawickrama - Technical Coordinator and Mr. K.B.S.L. Wijeratne - Deputy Registrar Faculty of Graduate Studies /Secretary Board of Study in Multidisciplinary Studies.
The workshop contained two sessions led by experts in the field. They were Senior Prof. Upali Chandrasekara from Department of Zoology & Environmental Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya and Dr. B.J.C. Perera, the Chief Editor, Sri Lanka Journal of Child

The morning session was conducted by Senior Prof. Upali Chandrasekara who detailed how to construct the research design for a specific topic. He elaborated the process of formulating a research question and effectively collecting data through variable identification and accurate sampling techniques.
The evening session was conducted by Dr. B.J.C. Perera who descriptively elaborated about Research publishing and how and to where a researcher must pay attention in preparing a good article for publication. Participants gained valuable opportunities to learn from and engage in discussions with experienced researchers in the fields.
