Aims and Objectives
This program is designed to enhance the awareness of the nature, structure, and function of language in general, and to develop the candidates' ability to execute linguistic knowledge in dealing with practical activities related to the candidates' own language, it will also encourage candidates to do research on, one or the other aspect of the language as selected by them.

Assignments, in-class test, year-end written examination, and or viva voce for dissertation
Written examination
The written examination, consisting of six papers (compulsory) of three hours each, will be held at the end of the first year.

Master of Fine Arts
Introduction
Visual Arts & Design and Performing Arts Unit, Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Humanities offer Master of Arts Degree Programs catering to the national needs.
Aims of the Programme
The Visual Arts & Design and Performing Arts Unit of the Department of Fine Arts decided to introduce the present program to address a long-felt need of graduates in Fine Arts and allied disciplines who are employed in numerous fine arts-related vocations, and who were eager to access the advanced knowledge and current developments in the discipline.
Objectives of the Programme
The MFA is a hybrid research-oriented and practice-oriented program designed to provide the students with the most updated knowledge in art history, aesthetics, art theory, and art criticism, combined with advanced studio training with the aim of enhancing the quality of art teachers, art managers, art administrators, curators, designers, writers about art, graphic artists, practicing artists, or those who wish to pursue such careers.
Teaching Methods and Evaluation Criteria
All sessions are operated with lectures, practicals, workshops, and field studies that are conducted by specially appointed staff, and resource persons.
Sessions and Workshops
The duration of the degree program is two (02) years. The Courses are designed with Compulsory course units. Each Course unit bears its own credit weightage depending on the teaching and learning environment of the subject. However, a student must complete 60 credits in the two-year period, completing 30 credits each year. In each year, there are two semesters and the students have to register for all theory and practical sessions.
Each semester is comprised of twenty (20) weeks. Lectures and the practical sessions are conducted during weekends (Sunday) from 9:00am to 4:00pm in three (03) sessions.
The first-year curriculum of the Master of Fine Arts program will consist of six courses delivered through lectures and seminars. In the first year, the students have to write an assignment of a selected subject area, making a presentation before a selected panel of evaluators/ examiners.
In the second year of the program, students will be assigned to one of eight visiting mentor-artists of their choice to work on a Studio Thesis on a theme approved by the Visual Arts & Design and Performing Arts Unit during the first five months. During the rest of the year, those who have received 50% of marks for the Studio Thesis will continue transforming the Studio Thesis into creative work(s) and will display such work at a public exposition.
In addition to the appointed staff, there will be special guest lectures, and workshops (internal/external) to provide the students with better and updated knowledge
All sessions are conducted at the Senake Bandaranayake Hall (K-10) of the University of Kelaniya.

Brief introduction of the M.Sc. in Computer Science Programme
Knowledge on Computer Science is essential for all aspects of our society. A deeper understanding of computer science is critical for future development in fields such as agriculture, engineering, education, health sciences, physics, chemistry, biology and computer science itself.
Therefore, the primary goal of this M.Sc. programme is to equip graduates with the state-of-the-art computer science knowledge, enabling them to become future leaders in their fields. This M.Sc. in Computer Science course content is designed to provide an integrated set of skills that are necessary for both academia and industry. Moreover, the content is focused more on the skills that are not presently imparted to the students during their undergraduate studies. Students in this M.Sc. programme can emphasize their studies in one of four major areas: Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology and Scientific Computing. Each emphasis above would provide students with a deep understanding of a range of critical topics covering the relevant area. Ultimately, this programme is intended to give students an appreciation of the current state and future directions of technological advances in Computer Science as well as give experience in both team work and individual work.

On the completion of the course students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of Computer Science core subject areas and main research directions.
- Apply Computer Science skills and aptitudes to the planning, analysis, design and implementing Computer, Computational, Data Science and Information Technology projects.
- Creatively tackle problems and effectively implement computer systems within an agreed time scale.
- Present ideas and describe systems both verbally and in writing.
Target Group
This course is intended for graduates who are employed in the public or private sector with some experience in computer applications, and who graduated with computer science as a subject.
Eligibility
Any person with the following qualifications is eligible to apply for the course.
- A bachelor degree in any discipline with computer science (30 credits) as a subject from a recognized university,
or
- A qualification of SLQF 6 or above in the computer science or related subject area (to be determined by the senate)
or
- A professional qualification equivalent to SLQF 6 or above:
- British Computer Society (BCS) Professional Graduate Diploma with Project.
and
At least one year’s work experience in the field of computing.

Introduction
Master of Science in Statistics is offered by the Department of Statistics & Computer Science of the Faculty of Science of University of Kelaniya. The Masters programs structure allow to select options ranging from the more theoretical aspects of Statistics, including a module on research topics, to those which cover material focused on real world applications of Statistics. The programs are designed so that the students have the opportunity to learn the statistical theories as well as the applications of arising in the industry. While studying for the degrees, it will develop key transferrable skills, such as written and oral communication, the use of some programming in Statistical software, time management, and basic research skills.
Program Objectives
The purpose of this degree programs is to advance the knowledge of a graduate in Statistics and prepare them to work in a professional environment or to proceed higher studies.

- A Bachelor of Honors degree in Statistics or Bachelor of Honors degree in Mathematics/Computer Science/ Information Technology with Statistics as a subject

- A Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as a subject,
or
- Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to the Senate of the University.
