Master of Arts in Christian Studies
Introduction
The University of Kelaniya offers five study programmes in Christian Culture and Christian Studies. The undergraduate degree programmes are B.A. in Christian Culture, B.A. (Honors) in Christian Culture and postgraduate study programmes are M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D.
M.A. in Christian studies has been offered in view of training students to pursue M.Phil. degree successfully. It is meant to expose the student to a deeper study of the discipline in six areas of Christian Studies. This will facilitate the students to choose a specific research area for M.Phil. and Ph.D. dissertations.
Aim of the Programme
This programme will help the students to gain special knowledge through six specific disciplines in Christian Studies namely, Hebrew Scriptures, Christian Scriptures, Christian Thought, History of Christianity, Contextual Theology and Christian Art.
These areas are designed aiming to improve the higher order thinking of the students to pursue further studies up to M. Phil. and Ph.D. levels.
Objectives of the Programme
- Offers the opportunity to gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the six major fields of studies
- Enhances the ability to explore and raise awareness on the current issues of the global society for theological reflections and their publication
- Offers the opportunities to visit and research relevant texts from the best libraries of Tulana Research Centre and the University of Kelaniya
- Provides substantial knowledge in Research Methodology through assignments, seminars and oral presentations
- Enhances the capacity for conceptual, critical, comparative and attitudinal thinking
