Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya Partners with LankaPay to Advance Digital Transformation
A significant step towards digital transformation was marked at the University of Kelaniya with the signing of an agreement between the Faculty of Graduate Studies and LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd to implement the GovPay digital platform on the 5th of May 2025 at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, while Mr. Channa de Silva, Chief Executive Officer of LankaPay, led the representation from LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd. Also, the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Senior Professor Priyani Paranagama, Registrar of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Deputy Registrar of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mr. K.B.S.L. Wijeratne, Senior Assistant Bursar of FGS, Mrs. S. S. Gonapeenuwala and Mr. Udaya H. Kasthurirathne, along with several senior officials from the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and other distinguished guests, embraced the event with their presence.
The University of Kelaniya is one of the first government universities to implement the GovPay digital platform, and the partnership aims to introduce a secure, efficient, and user-friendly online payment system for the Faculty of Graduate Studies services, aligning with national efforts to promote digital governance. Mr. Udaya H. Kasthurirathne, Lead – Digital Government/Digital Economy Program, ICT Agency of Sri Lanka, a Council member of the University of Kelaniya, as well as a Faculty Board member of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, was a key figure in the establishment and advancement of this partnership initiative. He also made a significant contribution to the discussions on implementing the GovPay digital platform to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, along with Mr. K.B.S.L. Wijeratne, Deputy.
The introduction of the GovPay digital platform will allow students, staff, and stakeholders to complete their payments digitally, significantly improving convenience and reducing administrative burdens.
